Why play poker ? You'd think the answer would be simple, but
the answer is actually complex and personal. There are many
different reasons to play or not play poker. Often, the reasons
a person chooses to play poker will shed a light on what type
of player that person is and what limits/games he or she should
play.
Reasons to Play
Poker:
Social Rewards. Tone of the major
reason behind the home poker game is it's a great social
evening for friends to hang out and play some cards. In fact
many friendships are built over a game of cards. Keep it fun
and friendly.
Poker is
a competitive game that is also entertaining. To win you need
some skills and some luck. For many this is enjoyable and
provides great entertainment. But don't get caught in the
entertainment nature when you are playing for money because you
could lose a lot of money.
Education The skills required to be a
good poker player will apply to other areas of your life. Poker
helps improve your judgment skills, especially when it comes to
reading others, and it sharpens your logic and strategic
skills.
To Make Money. Most people play poker
for fun, but some play only for the potential it has to make
money. Not everyone makes a lot of money from poker. In fact
those that make a lot of money are actually the minority.
However the desire to win definately gives you incentive to
improve your poker skills.
Poker is one of the few forms of betting where you can
actually win. Whether you believe it or not casino style
betting is rigged against you. Blackjack is the only exception
because if you count cards. However this isn't an eay
accomplishment. Sports betting is also near impossible to beat
without insider information. Thus, poker is one of the few
forms of gambling where one can actually win money in the long
run simply by being good at the game.
You Should
Not Play Poker If
Anytime you play poker you risk losing
money. You should never play poker with money that you can't
afford to lose. Never view Poker as a way to get rich. Don't
view your losses as money you need to win back. If you are
prone to a gambling problem do not play poker.
